There are few times of the year better than October to visit Austin. The weather starts to cool down, its football season in the Land of the Longhorns, and it’s also when the annual Austin City Limits Festival takes place. But over the past decade, Austin has added a new event to its arsenal. The Formula One US Grand Prix. If you happen to be one of the thousands of people from around the world coming to this event, or a local wanting to check out this spectacular event, this post will go through some of the best things to do at the US Grand Prix in Austin.
The Circuit of the Americas (COTA) stands as the United States first new foothold in the world of F1 over the past decade (Miami and Las Vegas have been added since). This state-of-the-art racing facility, built between 2010-2012, with its captivating blend of thrilling turns and long straightaways, has firmly established itself as a premier destination for F1 enthusiasts from around the globe. Since its grand opening in 2012, COTA has become an iconic venue that hosts some of the most prestigious and adrenaline-pumping races, including the Formula One United States Grand Prix. Building new traditions steeped in speed and passion, COTA continues to captivate fans with its exceptional facilities and unforgettable racing experiences.
Details about the Race
During the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, which will take place in October 20-22, 2023, there are several important details to keep in mind to ensure the best possible experience. First and foremost, it is very smart to book your tickets early, as they tend to sell out quickly. Tickets can be purchased online or through the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) box office, or through our partnership. Scan to end of article for ticket options.
When choosing your tickets, it’s important to think about your budget. The price of tickets for the U.S. Grand Prix depends on the type of ticket you choose and where the grandstand is located. General admission tickets are the cheapest option, but they don’t guarantee the best view of the track. Reserved seats in the grandstands are more expensive but offer a better view for enjoying the race.
Planning your transportation to the Circuit of the Americas is essential. The track is located approximately 15 miles south of downtown Austin, and Interstate 35 can become a mess. Give yourself plenty of time. You have various options for reaching the venue, including by car, bus, or shuttle. If you decide to drive, be mindful of traffic, as it can become very congested during race weekends.
Packing appropriately for the weather is important. October weather in Austin can be unpredictable, so it is advisable to pack for various conditions. Bring essentials like sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and a light jacket, even if the forecast predicts a sunny day.
Again, due to traffic, arriving early is recommended to avoid crowds and make the most of your experience. The gates at COTA open at 7:00 AM on race day, providing ample time to explore the track and festival grounds before the action begins.
Ultimately, the U.S. Grand Prix promises an incredible event where you can witness the world’s top drivers competing on one of the most challenging tracks in the world. Soak in the vibrant atmosphere, relax, and cheer on your favorite driver for an unforgettable time.
